Forest School
Forest School sessions at St Oswald’s take place in our very own woodland, Knuzwood. We are proud to offer a child-centred and holistic learning approach where children learn through play and exploration. Forest School is an inspirational process that allows our children to develop their confidence through regular opportunities to achieve. It is a process that encourages children to become comfortable with the outdoor environment whilst in familiar surroundings.
Children learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks, co-operate with others and to use their own initiative to solve problems. During sessions, children will be given the opportunity to build shelters, light fires and use green woodworking skills to create and build natural items. They will use full size tools, learn the boundaries of both physical and social behaviour, establish and grow in confidence, self-esteem and motivation.
We have several members of staff who are fully qualified Level 3 practitioners and lead sessions throughout the year. All children have the opportunity to experience blocks of sessions during every season. They are supported by Mrs Feehan (Level 2 practitioner) and a team of other supporting adults.
