Safeguarding Children is Everyone's Responsibility

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Safeguarding is the umbrella term and one aspect of this is Child Protection. Elements included within this term involve other aspects of school life such as:

  • Health and Safety
  • Force and Restraint
  • Meeting the needs of children with medical conditions, including personal care
  • First Aid and the administration of medicines
  • Educational Visits
  • Online Safety
  • School Security
  • PREVENT (more detail about this can be found in the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy below)

If you are concerned that a child is being abused or neglected, you should consider making a safeguarding referral.

You will find lots of further information about safeguarding, including advice and tips for talking to children on the NSPCC website.
